Description
An Edinburgh sterling silver Fly Plaid Brooch with the figure of St. Andrew and a Saltire set centrally in an open ring with a bold scrolling thistle design, all mounted upon a circular backing plate decorated with an engraved scrolling wave design. The reverse of the brooch is mounted with a robust silver hinged pin and locking clasp. The silver is of a good gauge.
The brooch reverse carries the maker’s tablet for R & HB KIRKWOOD, 66-68 Thistle St, Edinburgh and the Castle and Thistle hallmarks for Edinburgh with the date letter ‘e’ for 1886. It is further engraved with the name of “A. MUNRO ROSS” beneath which is a thistle emblem obscured by one of the assembly rivets.
